biography

Natalie has dedicated over a decade to mastering the horn. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Horn Performance from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music in 2025, where she studied under Jeff Nelsen and trained with renowned educators including Richard Seraphinoff, Eric Kushner, Nathan Mitchell, and Martha Sharpe. Her performance career has taken her internationally, from the Chandler Symphony Orchestra in Arizona to the Orchestre Métropolitain in Montréal, Canada.

Natalie is currently pursuing her Master of Music in Horn Performance at the University of New Mexico, where she serves as a teaching assistant. In this role, she helps run the horn studio, teaches lessons, and supports both undergraduate students and studio activities. Through her teaching and leadership, she is passionate about fostering a collaborative, encouraging environment for young musicians. She plans to graduate in 2027.

During her undergraduate studies at Indiana University, Natalie performed with numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles and served as the 2024–2025 President of the Big Red Horn Club, leading and organizing a team of 20 horn players for performances, competitions, and community projects. Her passion for music and travel flourished during her studies abroad in Vienna, Austria, where she immersed herself in Europe’s rich musical culture and attended world-class performances in Vienna, Berlin, London, and beyond.

In addition to her graduate studies, Natalie is an active freelance horn player in Albuquerque, performing with local ensembles and collaborating in chamber settings. She previously worked at the William and Gayle Cook Music Library, an experience that deepened her appreciation for research and music scholarship. Away from the horn, she enjoys outdoor adventures with her dog—often stopping for a pup cup at the local ice cream stand—and can frequently be found absorbed in her latest book.

"She shows great promise to fulfill her dream of being a professional performing hornist."                                                             - Jeff Nelsen
